At the start of the drying process, wet materials are put into the dryer, which is lifted by a series of fins on the inner wall of the dryer. When the material gets high enough to roll back off the fins, it starts to roll back down to the bottom of the dryer, where hot gas flows.
When there is co-current flow, the gas moves from the feed end to the discharge end. When there is reverse co-current flow, the gas moves in the opposite direction, from the discharge end to the feed end (known as counter-current flow). The dryer is called a direct heated dryer when the gas stream is made up of air and the combustion gases from a burner.
Some parts that make up a rotary dryer's shell (drum) are the raw product inlet hopper, the product discharge, the flights, the air seals, the Rav, the cyclone separator, and the aluminum Cerawool claddings. The girth gear, the riding/tire ring, the pinion, the trunnion wheel, the thrust roller, the transmission assembly, the burner/hot air generator, the inducing draught fan, and the thrust roller are some of the other parts.
